Water and waste water.
Mälarenergi is responsible for tap water supply and waste water systems in the city of Västerås. Our job is to extract, purify and distribute drinking water to households and business, by using the best environmental technology.
In Västerås we use the water from Lake Mälaren to produce drinking water. It,s is purified in an natural way using the natures own purifing system, infiltration in through BAdelundaåsen. It gives us an almost unlimited access to our most important commodity - water.
Even if drinking water is the smaller part of the water distributed, it sets our quality standards. It´s classified too meet regulations regarding food. To ensure and to follow up the quality of the water, samples are taken continuously at the water plants, some municipal facilities and at fixed points in the pipe grid system.
Households consume the major part of the water
In average one person consume about 250 liters of water per day. Households are the major consumers, even if a big amount is needed in industry, in public swimming pools and within the service sector. Mälarenergi is responsible for water supply in Västerås city. Our job is to, with the best environmental technology, extract, purify and distribute daily water to households and business. Every day we pump up 40 million liters of water, which is purified and pumped into the 620 kilometers long pipe grid system.
